The straws are made of borosilicate, which is typically used in the laboratory. It is shatter resistant, and on the Mohs hardness scale (where diamonds are 10 and chalk 1), borosilicate glass is rated at 7.5 points. The regular glass is only 5.5.
It is dishwasher safe and can be cleaned with a brush (included).
